Old Town of Salantai
Salantai Town is full of stories and legends. It is the city which, according to the legend, originated in an island; allegedly people who floated down the river saw the land they wanted to see so much and exclaimed "sala ten" (an island there). However, Salantai was first mentioned as Skilandžiai in written sources. The beginning of the town is reminded by the Rooster (Gaidys) Chapel and signs of thriving Salantai can be found in the Manor Homestead Park. Immediately after entering Salantai, the guests are welcomed by the ruins of the inn which was called "America" (Amerika), Salantai church on the hill, old cinema theatre and the famous "Pakalnutė". A more agile traveller will also notice traces of the Jewish nation in the well-kept centre of Salantai. A synagogue in which today the cultural centre, the 19th-20th century residential home is located has survived. And the most beautiful part of the Old Town of Salantai is people who can tell a lot of stories about their old town.
