Bakery of Kretinga Manor

The programme is intended for groups of children of up to 25 people, adult and mixed groups of up to 15 people. The class is delivered by Vida Viskontienė, a baker of the certified national heritage product, i.e bread, and Nijolė Vasiliauskienė, the head of the Ethnography Division of the Museum. The class takes place in the Centre for Traditional Crafts of Kretinga Museum at the address Vilniaus Str. 37, Kretinga. You will familiarise with the importance of bread in the household and customs of the Lithuanian national, baking traditions, prepare dough, you will form loafs of bread or a wholemeal bread and will bake them by yourself. And while the bread will be baking, you will familiarise yourself with the ancient tillage, kitchenware used for bread baking, learn to identify cereal crops, be able to try grind the grain in a grinder. You will find out about calendar and family festivals in which the ritual bread is used, familiarise yourself with the small folklore treasure related to bread.
