Housekeeper’s house

In front of Kretinga Manor, across the street, stands a building known as the Housekeeper's House. Though much more modest, it is as beautiful as the palace. Today, the museum’s administration operates there, and the building hosts an exhibition on the history of Kretinga town. It is possible that the Housekeeper's House once served as a palace before the new masonry palace was built in the first half of the 19th century. Thus, Counts Zubov may indeed have lived in the Housekeeper's House, and Countess Sofija Tiškevičienė lived there while the palace was being repaired. The Housekeeper's House was even called “polociai.” Indeed, the building resembles a palace, thanks to the preserved colorful wall paintings and the abundance of auxiliary buildings that ensured a comfortable life for the housekeeper’s entire family. Today, visitors can access the exhibition in the Housekeeper's House via a white footbridge, from which the beauty of the building and its surroundings can be admired.
