Saint Anthony Palace

During the period between the two world wars, the Mansion of Saint Anthony in which Franciscan Gymnasium is located today, was also known as Saint Anthony House, Saint Anthony college, institute, American Palace. Historically, this buildings is extremely colourful. First of all, it is a gift of thanks to the Lithuanian people in America who generously took over construction of the Franciscan Gymnasium during the period of the two world wars. The palace was intended for accomodation of emigrants returning to Lithuania from foreign countries. Unfortunately, the nice idea was killed off by the Second World War. The Nazis and Soviet force structures were established in Saint Anthony Palace. Footprints of people who were imprisoned and tortured here can still be found in the cellars of the building. Records and paintings of prisoners were left in the premises of the cellar. Currently, the Franciscan Gymnasium is established in the palace. However, one can visit the most mysterious corners of the building with a guide.
