Shrine Hill

A visit to Alka Hill will require your imagination. Not much has remained here from the ancient times but if you be able to swing your imagination, Alka hill really will not disappoint you. The very fact that the hill was formed by nature already during the ice age is telling. The place is so old that stories that the hill was an island surrounded by water which later trapped and turned into meadows are told until this day. No one doubts that pagan sacrificial rite took place on the hill. There are theories that the priestesses of Alka hill were the last ones who quenched the eternal fire in Lithuania. A stone with a bowl may be still be found at the foot of the hill; it undoubtedly reminds of the times when something was being sacrificed to Gods in altars. Alka Hill is gifted with special powers. It is believed that a spring gushing at the slope of the hill helps to heal eye diseases.
