The Southern Gate of the Old Cemetery II of Kretinga Parish

The southern neo-Baroque cemetery gate, standing 9.9 m high and 4.4 m wide slightly taller than the northern gate along with the 110 m long cemetery fence, are also the work of architect J. Padlevskis. They are listed in the Book of Outstanding Achievements of Lithuania as the tallest cemetery gates in the country. The fence, topped with a gabled roof made of red bricks and broken stones, is considered the most ornate cemetery fence in Lithuania. The Latin inscription on the upper part of the gate, 1913 / DEUS SPES NOSTRA (1913 / God is our hope), expresses the hope of those buried here to rise to eternal life after death.
